Hello! We have every reason in the world to be optimistic about what the future has in store for our family and we can assure you that our hearts have a special place prepared for another child. Our lives have been full of adventure and wonderful memories and we look forward to creating many more memories as we continue to grow our family through adoption.
Our story started in the summer of 2010, when we were paired up as ballroom dance partners
for several ballroom dance routines put on by our church. Those weekly dance practices soon became daily encounters and it didn’t take long for us to realize that we couldn’t spend a single day without each other. We both attended BYU-Idaho that fall, got engaged during the first semester and were married on New Years Eve.
We had always wanted to have a family, but it didn’t take long for us to realize that the path to starting our family was going to be a bit different from what we had planned. For years we sought out medical treatment for infertility, but despite the various doctors and numerous tests the results kept leading to dead ends. During those faith-building years we visited with an adoption agency twice before fully embracing the decision to adopt.
In 2017, God sent us a miracle baby. We adopted our son at birth and he is our absolute greatest blessing! We are looking forward to loving and raising our next adoption miracle.
I don’t know how I got so lucky to be the wife of the most amazing man in the world. Shawn is one of the sweetest most thoughtful people I have ever met. Shawn has a knack for making people laugh. His humor is one-of-a-kind and ever since he became a dad, "Dad Jokes" are his jam. He also has a gift for composing his own songs on the piano and the guitar. He wrote a piano piece in honor of our son and every time Shawn played the song when our son was fussing as a baby, he would stop crying. It is simply beautiful.
Shawn received his Bachelors and Masters in Accounting and is a CPA for a commercial real estate company. He is incredibly studious and is willing to work hard at whatever it takes to succeed. He also served a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ in northern Spain where he taught in Spanish. His faith is a huge part of who he is and the values he has in life.
I have yet to see the day when Shawn comes home from work without a smile on his face. He is a true optimist. Watching Shawn be a dad brings me so much joy. Our son absolutely LOVES his daddy and Shawn can make him laugh more than anyone. Shawn’s genuine interest in the well-being of others, his optimism, generosity, fun personality, and love for children will bless the life of any child who calls him ‘dad.’
One of the first things that I noticed about Megan was the way that she smiles. Her smile is symbolic of the way that she lives her life. Megan is always optimistic and finds the good in everyone and in every situation. She has also spent her whole life setting and working toward worthy goals such as motherhood, and it shows.
In college, Megan earned a degree in early childhood education, child development, and marriage and family studies. The result of all of her efforts and studies combined with her motherly instincts is nothing short of miraculous. Whether we are visiting my nieces and nephews, babysitting for some friends, or just walking through the grocery stores, the way that children respond to her is remarkable. They just light up when she’s around!
In summary, spending time with Megan is the highlight of my life not just because she is so talented with music (piano, violin, and singing), or that she bakes the most incredible cupcakes ever, or even that she always makes me laugh, but because she loves so purely and brings joy to everyone around her. Our son would rather be next to Mommy helping with the dishes than playing with his toys in another room, and I feel the same way. She loves us and brings us so much happiness, and I know she will provide that same love and happiness to our next little miracle baby.
Our son was born in October of 2017 and is now a fun-loving toddler. We absolutely love his sweet spirit of optimism and he has taught us so much with his focus on what matters most. He loves to spend time with mommy and daddy and enjoys the simple pleasures of life including splashing in puddles, snuggling while reading books, playing outside, and jumping in leaves.
He loves all types of animals and if he could only have three toys he would probably choose three stuffed animals. He also has a passion for children’s books (like his mom) and his vocabulary and memory are astonishing. He loves the weekly storytime trips to the library and enjoys having regular playdates with friends and cousins. Some of his favorite restaurants are Cracker Barrel and Chick-fil-A and he excitedly points them out whenever we drive by.
On multiple occasions, our son has prayed for a baby brother or baby sister. He often talks about how he is very excited to be a big brother someday. Our son is truly our little ray of sunshine and we are looking forward to the day when his little light can bless the life of his baby brother or baby sister.
After living in Phoenix for almost 2.5 years and really enjoying the “big-city life,” we considered for quite some time where we wanted to settle down and raise our family. With Shawn’s occupation as an Accountant, we felt we could go pretty much anywhere in the country. Our hearts were drawn back to the Boise, ID area and we haven’t looked back since.
We absolutely love where we live and we feel so fortunate to have the charming home that we have. Our favorite feature about our home is our upstairs playroom. We have created many memories in this “happy place” and it is where every child wants to go when they come to play.
We also love our backyard! It is our little sanctuary where we harvest peaches, raspberries, blackberries, apples, nectarines, apricots, and whatever else we choose to plant in our garden. Our son is now old enough to appreciate it and it is so fun to watch his little fingers plant seeds and pick raspberries.
When we were looking for a home, our first priority was the location in a good school district. We narrowed down the neighborhoods that fell in the boundaries of the best elementary school in the city and we feel fortunate that our children will be able to attend the highest rated elementary school in the city.
Our community focuses a great deal on families. We are surrounded by parks (three within walking distance), two public libraries within 15 minutes of our home, children’s museums, and fun cultural events.
We find joy in the simple things in life and above anything else in the world, we love being together and with family. Family is everything to us. We are so grateful for the example our parents have given us on how to be loving parents and the importance of being genuinely good people. Both of our parents epitomize the phrase, “The best parents get promoted to grandparents” and all four grandparents LOVE being grandparents. We video chat with them at least once a week and we visit them and receive visits from them regularly.
Our son enjoys spending time with his cousins. Four of them live just 15 minutes away, which is perfect for playdates. In addition, it seems that we have a birthday celebration almost every month between both of our families.
Shawn’s parents host a family reunion in Utah every summer and we alternate Christmas and Thanksgiving with his side of the family every year. Megan’s parents and siblings live in Oklahoma, and our son has been to Oklahoma three times in the past 2.5 years. We enjoy family vacations and look forward to traveling to various places with our extended family.
We absolutely love living in the Treasure Valley where we get to experience all four seasons every year. Each season brings countless memories and we are looking forward to continuing these enjoyable memories with our children.
As a family, we enjoy…
Thank you for learning about our family. Adoption is a wonderful gift of love and we are thrilled to be a part of it. We speak openly and often with our son about his adoption, and read him books containing adoption elements so he can understand his beautiful story.
When we adopted our son, our family grew by so much more than one. We have an open adoption and keep in touch with his birth parents and their families. Each month we email a newsletter with highlights and pictures from the month to his birth parents, birth grandparents, and grandparents.
Whether we are chosen as the parents to raise your child or not, know that you are admired for considering the best option for your child. We very much look forward to welcoming another baby into our arms, hearts, and home. It would be an honor to raise, teach, love, and inspire your child and we have so many loving family members who are also ready to love and cherish our little miracle. We look forward to the joyful day when we can say to you and your child, “welcome to the family.”
